  1. This file will hold any late breaking reports on QuickCat for Windows
  2.  
  3. Installation

  5. Registered version Installation
  6. Place disk 1 in a disk drive and Run INSTALL.EXE on disk1 from the File 
  7. Manager File/Run menu.  Follow program instructions. Method 1 & 3 below 
  8. may also be used.

  10. Shareware Installation
  11.  
  12. Distribution is made in a number of ways.  The normal distribution disk(s) 
  13. can be installed by "run"ning the install program from the Windows File 
  14. Manager Files/Run menu and following instructions.

  16. If you have a single ZIP file three installation methods are possible as 
  17. follows:
  18.  
  19. Method 1   Copy all of the files into a single hard drive directory. 
  20. (This directory may be deleted after the installation is complete) Run 
  21. INSTALL.EXE from the Windows File Manager File/Run menu.

  23. Method 2   Create an installation set.  UnZip the ZIP envelope into a 
  24. temporary directory. Move each of the Disk3_x. and Files3.LZH files to a 
  25. floppy. The move the Disk2_x. and Files2.LZH files to a new floppy.  Be sure 
  26. the floppies are large enough to hold the files. The remaining files belong 
  27. on the first floppy in the set. Run INSTALL.EXE on disk1 from the File 
  28. Manager File/Run menu.

  30. Method 3        Copy all of the files to a new directory. When you are 
  31. finished this directory will become the home for QuickCatW.  If the file is 
  32. a ZIP file, unzip it now and delete the .ZIP file. Run the extracted LHARC 
  33. program on each of the FILESx.LZH files.  Move all files to \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  34. except the ones with a filename beginning with "QKC".  In the Windows Program 
  35. Manager select New/Add and add the QKCATW.EXE to an existing group (or add 
  36. a new group).  If you wish to access the help system from the Program Manager
  37. you need to also add WINHELP.EXE as an icon with a command line of 
  38. (drive):\(dir)\QKCATW.HLP.

  40. The QuickCat Install program creates two subdirectories which are left 
  41. empty in the current registered and shareware versions.  These directories
  42. will eventually hold the Utilities and Bonus programs and files which will
  43. become part of the registered system.

  45. Registered users can obtain new versions (up to the next major release) from 
  46. any source and use the same brand registration key provided with their 
  47. original registration to turn off the shareware screens.

  49. QuickCat release plan
  50. Micro System Solution plans to release QuickCat as changes, upgrades, fixes 
  51. are completed.  At first this will mean numerous releases to establish a 
  52. solid product.  When the product stabilizes the releases will become less 
  53. frequent and have more substantial feature upgrades.

  55. QCW currently supports the ZIP 2.04g archive standard. We plan to support 
  56. all of the popular archives used on the PC, both in DOS and UNIX.  This 
  57. additional support will be added in future versions.

  59. Some of the planned upgrades are:
  60.         Duplicate file identification
  61.         Disk labels in standard sizes and user defined
  62.         Move, copy, delete and view the files
  63.         Support for ARJ, LZH, PAK, ZOO, etc.
  64.         Stored user preferences
  65.         Stored user SQL (as opposed to QBE)
  66.         Multiple on screen view windows
  67.         Join two or more catalogs
  68.         Split a catalog
  69. Other ideas are always welcome.

  73. 1.03    - 6/3/94        Replaced install program. Install no longer requires
  74.                         VBRUN300.DLL to be in path.  Installs VBRUN300.DLL
  75.                         in users Windows System directory.

  78.                         SVGA modes. Screen now adjusts proportionally.
